After this course you will be able to:
- Mention different techniques to study genomes and apply these in plant breeding
- Discuss the available next generation sequencing platforms
- Distinguish different types of molecular markers and explain how to use them in map-based cloning
- Explain QTL mapping and genome-wide association mapping
- Discuss techniques used in plant breeding to improve crop performance
- Present a brief lecture with a small group of fellow students
- Search public databases on the internet for information on the mutants and molecular markers you need during the practical laboratory course
- Design experiments to identify the chromosomal location of genes responsible for two given mutations by map-based cloning
- Present your experiments in the form of a report written in the format of a scientific article
