After this project you are able to:

  • independently and safely design, plan and execute a simple organic synthetic experiment based on chemical literature that is presented
  • to assess the dangers of a simple experiment to take appropriate action to execute this experiment safely
  • interpret spectral and analytical data and draw conclusions from these about the purity and structure of the obtained materials
  • work together in a project team in order to contribute to solving a simple molecular problem by analysis, discussion and experimental research
  • process (joint) results in a scientific report, poster and / or oral presentation, according to the standards of scientific integrity
Inhoud
The lab is an introduction to molecular construction (synthesis) and kinetics (reaction time) and is a first step in acquiring an academic attitude to scientific experimentation. The student will theory (college parallel reactions and kinetics) against reality, the experiment. With a preconceived goal, substances synthesized, where it is safe to learn to deal with chemicals, glassware and equipment and an efficient implementation of an experiment are paramount. In a group project assignments will be carried out to answer a predefined question and will lead the relationship between the molecular structure of substances and their reactivity will lay bare. Meanwhile, communication skills are trained: notebook, reports, oral reports, discussion, presentation (poster presentation).
Bijzonderheden
This project runs parallel to the topics that are treated in the lectures of the course reactions and kinetics.
The theory of the practical course will be tested in an exam.The project will finish with a symposium where a poster is presented and a presentation is given.You HAVE TO subscribe to this practical course at least ONE MONTH BEFORE the start of this course.

Toetsinformatie
Student is assessed on the basis of theoretical and practical skills during the project and the reporting thereof. Also, the project will be rounded off with a mini symposium for which a poster and a presentation.
The theory of the practical exercises is reviewed in an exam. Assessment criteria are listed in the syllabus.
