| After this project you are able to:
- correctly apply various biochemical and analytical techniques and properly record the obtained results in a laboratory notebook
- correctly interpret the results and clearly summarize it in a written report and present it orally to an interested audience
- create an efficient planning for the implementation of an experiment so that it can be successfully completed within the available time
- seek relevant information from scientific sources and refer to it in accordance with the defined standards
- cooperate in a good way with other group members to obtain an efficient approach and distribution of tasks within the group
- reflect in a proper way on how you function within the group
|
|
- During this project biochemical experiments will be carried out that relate to: the function of cells, cell organelles, proteins (enzymes), DNA and RNA
- The project covers several experimental techniques, such as microscopy, centrifugation, UV-VIS spectroscopy, chromatography (protein separation) and gel electrophoresis
- The project will start with a library module, during which the use of various information sources for finding scientific data will be dealt with
- The experiments will be performed in couples, who work closely together within a project

• Literature search • Reliability of the pipettes • Cells under the microscope • Where is ADH localized in liver cells? • Purification and analysis of protein mixtures • The rate of elimination of alcohol by ADH • The DNA structure of eukaryotic genes • Tissue-specific expression of genes |
The final assessment takes place on account of displayed crafts, theoretical and practical preparation, the quality of registration and interpretation of the experimental data such as that will eventually be incorporated into the labjournaal, the report and the final presentation (poster and/or nomination). This review should be sufficient. |
Biomolecules (NWI-MOL008).Knowledge of high school biology is needed. If lacking, additional self-study material is available on blackboard. The project is closely connected to the course "Biochemical Processes" (NWI-MOL013).This is a course in the theme 'Lab and research skills'. |
