The aim of this course is to give students an appreciation of current issues in Neurobiology, particularly molecular and cellular aspects, and including chemical and electrical communication in the brain, and how these can impact on behaviour and the development of neurodegenerative/neurodevelopmental disorders. |
|
This course considers advanced topics in Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology. Topics include chemical communication in the brain, electrial communication in the brain, neurogenomics, molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer’s disease, and genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders, in particular autism and schizophrenia. Aspects of these topics are presented, with emphasis on recent developments. The lectures are in English (exam questions are in English; exam answers can be given in English or Dutch).
